A Skew

Bench in Ash

Constructed from a single slab of Ash, the unique dark and light grain patterns of this lumber were used in a continuous grain wrap to highlight the unusual concave seam that runs up one leg, all the way across the seat and down the opposite leg.  This concave seam presents as a gentle fold that gives rise to subtle and unexpected angles in an otherwise commonly understood form.  The technically challenging compound angle dovetail joints follow the angle of the seam as it flows down the legs–both highlighting and blending naturally with this element.
