Ashes

Cabinet in Ash

Captivated by the mesmerizing insect trails in this stump of ash, Triptychs and Ashes were both conceived as decorative works to visually center these chaotic, organic patterns.  They are simultaneously a memorial to the dying ash species and a recognition of the beauty left behind by this destruction.  The cabinet of Ashes is shaped precisely to fit and display only this section of stump.  The fully functional tambour doors can open to reveal the beauty of the piece it holds in its entirety, or close seamlessly to hide and protect its precious contents.

Ashes was made during my time at the Museum for Art in Wood as a resident fellow in their 2024 Windgate Arts Residency Program (WARP).  It was on display at the museum in the exhibition “Fruition”.
